The Ugly One at The Junction in Dubai

The Ugly One returns for a final run at The Junction, inviting Dubai theatre-goers to navigate the complexities of identity and self-perception through a sharply comedic lens. This darkly satirical play, under the direction of Gillian Rhodes, delves into the pressure to conform to societal ideals and the often unexpected fallout of altering how we appear to others.

With a cast including Audrey Jegu, Keenan McFadzean, Patrick Albrecht and Sadiq Saboowala, the production weaves together biting wit and uncomfortable truths. The story follows a protagonist whose journey to fit the mold of perfection forces both character and audience to question the true cost of external validation. As the narrative unfolds, the lines between individuality, acceptance, and transformation grow increasingly blurred, prompting reflection on how far we might go to be noticed or admired.

Set in Alserkal Avenue, The Junction is known for showcasing thought-provoking performances within Dubai's creative scene. The Ugly One has garnered critical recognition, including a win for Best Set Design at the Junction Awards 2026, affirming its impact on the local theatre landscape.

Ideal for those drawn to contemporary drama and dark humour, this production offers an engaging evening that challenges perceptions and sparks conversation about the value we place on appearances.
