Planning a day at Ski Dubai

Snow in the desert

Ski Dubai is the indoor ski resort inside Mall of the Emirates — the first in the Middle East — kept at about −1 to −2 °C all year, with 6,000 tonnes of real snow. Its slope is about 400 metres long, served by a chairlift and a T-bar, with a freestyle zone of jumps and ramps.

Most visitors come for the Snow Park beside it: tobogganing and tubing runs, a snow cavern, giant ball rides, the Mountain Thriller ride and snowball fights. It also has a colony of Gentoo and King penguins; the March of the Penguins, several times a day, is free for Snow Park guests.

Which ticket to choose

A Snow Park ticket gives full-day access to the park with winter clothing — jacket, trousers, boots and socks — and usually a chairlift ride and a Mountain Thriller ride. The Plus tickets add more rides, such as the Snow Bullet zip line above the slope. Skiing or snowboarding on the main slope needs a slope pass and the ability to turn and stop; beginners book a lesson first.

Some listings add a private hotel transfer, others combine Ski Dubai with the Dubai Ice Rink or a hop-on hop-off bus. Each listing says which rides and gear are included. The list is ranked by traveller reviews.

Practical tips

Mall of the Emirates has its own station on the Red Line of the metro, so getting there is easy without a transfer. Gloves and a hat are not always part of the clothing — bring your own or buy them at the shop. Helmets are compulsory for children under 13 on the rides.

Ski Dubai is open all year, from the morning until late in the evening, and is busiest at weekends and on summer afternoons, when it is the coolest place in town. Two to three hours in the Snow Park is enough for most families.
