Balloon flights take off over the desert at dawn, when the air is calmest, and float for about an hour above the dunes, with views of camels, gazelles and the Hajar Mountains on the horizon. Pickup is very early — usually between 4 and 5 am — and most packages include breakfast at a desert camp, and some a falconry show or a ride in a vintage Land Rover.

Flights depend on the weather: if the wind is too strong, the operator cancels and offers another date or a refund.

Helicopter tours over the city
